Armidale head office hosts Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

Regional Australia Bank is committed to shining a light on mental health issues and supporting suicide prevention, particularly for our rural and regional communities. We’re unfortunately still seeing the statistics rise, with suicide remaining the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 44.

Since July 2019, we’ve been in partnership with ASIST to support evidence-based suicide prevention workshops to our local community, resulting in participants being trained in life saving suicide prevention skills. The workshops are completed over two days, which provides the skills needed to intervene with there is concern that an individual may be considering ending their life.

We’ve also reaffirmed our commitment through a range of community events and initiatives. Last year Regional Australia Bank hosted a charity golf day which raised $35,000 for the National Suicide Prevention Research Fund, which was a not only a great success, but a fun-filled day for all involved. We’ve also established the Regional Australia Bank PhD scholarship, supporting a PhD scholars’ research into mental health. In 2019, our recipient was Katie McGill from University of Newcastle.

We look forward to our continued support of suicide prevention research and education in 2020. To find out more information about ASIST training or to get involved please visithttp://www.livingworks.com.au/programs/asist/
